Normandy Story

In my 25 years of being a spa therapist at five-star resorts, I have learned many world-class remedies that benefit the skin and health in general. Of all of these therapies, Thallassopathy treatments are my favorite.

It was a wonderful experience for me to be able to tour the lab and receive treatments at Dinnards’s Thalassotherapy Center. It has forever made me a fan. I felt I could roam around forever. They have a pool with heated seawater where you can relax or swim between various treatments. I’ve included some pictures of my trip to France in this blog.

One treatment room was a circled seated area where pedicure chairs with foot baths were set up facing each other.  Your feet would soak in warm seawater, which would flush out to be replaced with cold seawater. After 20 minutes of this, I felt like I was walking on a cloud.

Another of my favorites was a small pool with four strong jets of water that would massage your fatty areas and back. We were also instructed in exercises that would help tone up our bodies while in the jet pool.

The best treatment was the seaweed body wrap. This therapy involves the use of green and brown seaweeds and seawater. The body is coated with a mixture containing these substances and then heat is applied, which opens the skin pores and allows the iodine, trace minerals, and other nutrients to penetrate your hair follicles and nourish all of your skin therapies.

Thallassopathy treatments make your body relax, releasing all your tension and leaving you with an incredibly good feeling throughout your whole body. I associate this therapy with the feeling of walking on the seashore and experiencing the rejuvenating power of the positive ions from the sea air. This is why these treatments have resulted in happy guests returning from all over the world to experience them again.

I understand because I have found myself craving these thermal body wraps with seaweed. This therapy has even helped heal a broken bone I recently had, easing pain and speeding healing. I have personally seen eczema heal through Thallassophy treatments.

Here are some of the reasons this treatment is so beneficial. For starters, seawater is very beneficial to our health. It contains all the essential trace elements the body needs for health in perfect balance and is nearly identical to the mineral content of our blood and lymph. French Biologist\Physiologist Dr. Rene Quinton proved that seawater is identical to the blood plasma in mammals.

While I worked at the beautiful Treasure Island in 1994,  I was trained with a line called Phytomer. The founder Jean Gedouin had suffered from recurring gout. He instinctively turned to his lifelong passion, the sea, to find a cure. He self-prescribed a glass of seawater daily and his ailment went away. The son, Antonine also had a love for the sea and their company became a pioneer in marine biotechnologies.

In 1900 many physicians used seawater as a healing agent in France and Egypt. Naval doctors used seawater for plasma during the Second World War when supplies of plasma ran out. Many illnesses were healed by this marine “plasma.” It remineralized the sick body.

Seaweeds and vegetal coral (a plant in the seaweed family great for sensitive skin) are mixed with this mineral-rich seawater. Applied topically it acts like a second skin and helps to hydrate skin cells. It helps to balance and restore skin cells. It also shields the skin from free radical damage caused by exposure to light, especially computer screens and fluorescent lights. You don’t have to go outside for damage to occur.

The brown seaweeds are the sugars of the sea, binding water in our cells. The green seaweeds stimulate three types of collagen. The red seaweeds calm and reduce redness and irritation. The red seaweed and vegetal coral help with micro-circulation in the blood vessels.
